“Faithfulness in Giving”

Habit 6, “Faithfulness in Giving
(Habits: Prayer; Bible Study; Worship, Witnessing, Ministry)
Malachi 3:6-12
Story: One day a man called his church and said, “Can I speak to the head hog at the trough?”

The secretary thought she heard right but asked, “I’m sorry. Who would you like to speak with?” The caller repeated, “Can I speak to the head hog at the trough?”
The secretary answered, “Well, if you mean the preacher, then you may refer to him as ‘Pastor’ or ‘Reverend,” but I prefer you not call him the ‘head hog at the trough!’”

The man replied, “Well, I was planning on giving $100,000 to the building fund…”

To which the secretary quickly responded, “Hang on. I think the big fat pig just walked in.”
We all need money. It the currency we use for exchange of goods.

Song by the O’Jays, “For The Love of Money?” (Play a stanza up to “GOOD things with it…”)

Money money money money, money
Some people got to have it
Some people really need it
Listen to me why’all, do things, do things, do bad things with it
You want to do things, do things, do things, GOOD things with it
Talk about cash money, money…
Giving money to God is a good thing to do.
Giving to God is not the big picture. The big picture, the big word is stewardship. The little words are tithes and offerings.

The Bible teaches us five reasons for giving to the Lord.

I. We Give to Pay Homage (“obligation”) to God.

II. We Give to Be Obedient to God.

III. Giving Is an Indication of Our Spiritual Condition.

The Lord wants us to give some of the following contributions to enrich our lives. This way we are “Stronger Together:”

       A. Give FRIENDSHIP.

       B. Give intercessory PRAYER SUPPORT.

       C. Give LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, GENTLENESS, FAITHFULNESS, AND         SELF-CONTROL TO EVERY SITUATION. (Gal. 5:22,23)
      D. Give APPRECIATION, COMPLIMENTS AND ENCOURAGEMENT.

      E. Give a HELPING HAND to someone in need.
     F. Give family some space and people ROOM TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITIES.

     G. Give RESPECT and you will often receive caring consideration and favor.

    H. Give GENEROUSLY without thought of what you might get in return.
    4. Giving Allows Us to Participate in the Work of God.

    5. Giving Opens Up the Blessings of God.

This is the promise of God about TITHE.
Our church is STRONGER TOGETHER when we TITHE:

T- Tenth
 I – Into the storehouse
T – Test God
H – Heaven’s blessing
E – Enemy stopped

Tithing is the kind of giving that honors God.
