“Resolve: Commitments for the New Year“

“Resolve: Commitments for the New Year“

Here is a beautiful resolution about mercy from the God:

Jeremiah  32:40 (NIV)
God says I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.”

Sermon text:

Philippians 3:12-14
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
I.  Be Resolved; We Need A Humble Evaluation of Ourselves
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect“ (v. 12a).
II. Secondly, If you want to get off to a good start this year, you need:

Be Resolved;  We Need A Holy Aspiration – a strong desire to achieve something great.
“But I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” (v. 12b).
7-UPS Resolutions
These 7-UPS fall under the heading of attitudes and actions.
1. The first resolution is WAKE UP – Begin the day with the Lord. It is His day. We should “Rejoice  and be glad in it.” (Ps. 118:24)
2. The second is DRESS-UP – Put on a smile. It improves your looks. It says something about your attitude.
Prov. 15:13, “A glad heart makes a cheerful face…”
3. The third resolution is SHUT-UP – Watch your tongue. Don’t gossip. Say nice things.  Learn to listen.
James 1:19, “…let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak…”
Prov. 21:23, “Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.”
4. The fourth resolution is STAND-UP – Take a stand for what you believe. Resist evil. Do good.
James 4:7, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
5. Five, LOOK-UP – Open your eyes to the Lord. After all, He is your only Savior.
Matt. 6:33, “But Seek first the kingdom of God and all these other things will be added to you.”
6. Six, REACH-UP – Spend time in prayer with your ACTS: adorations, confessions, thanksgivings and supplications to the Lord.
2 Kings 20, God told Isaiah to caution Hezekiah to get his house in order because he was to die soon.
“Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.”
7. And finally, LIFT-UP– Be available to help those in need–serving, supporting, and sharing.
1 Peter 4:10, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace
