Why Do Christians Celebrate Easter?“
“Why Do Christians Celebrate Easter?“
1 Cor. 15: 1-11
These verses (1 Cor. 15:3-5) are the heart of the Gospel. They convey a two-fold confession:
A. Christ died for our sins, v. 3
B. Christ was raised, v.4
The fact that Jesus was buried verified his death and the fact that He appeared to others (apostles and more than 500 hundred others) verified His resurrection, v.6
“Why would we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection?
Why would we celebrate someone’s returning from the dead whom we offended, denied knowing, threw shade at,
did wrong against, doubted, threw under the bus or kicked to the curb?”
Why is that Good News for us?
The parable titled “The Fired CEO.”
The CEO cast a very good vision “to go and win the world human market place,” in which all the vice presidents and stockholders would share in the success of the company.
However, success would not be painless or easy because great rewards come at a great sacrifice.
Faithfully following Jesus is not only good for you, but it is good for everybody else around you.
To Follow Jesus means to Walk the Talk of our faith:
WE HAVE TO WALK IN TRUTH.
WE MUST WALK IN THE LIGHT.
WE MUST WALK IN THE SPIRIT.
Proverbs 6:22-23 tells us this about the Words of God:
“When you walk, God’s Word will guide you;
when you sleep, God’s Word will watch over you;
when you awake, God’s Word will speak to you.
For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life.”
God’s Word and God’s Spirit together give us what we need to walk out our faith. Our job is to follow.
As Christians, if we love God and devote our lives to him, it should rub off on how we deal with others around us.
Jesus’ idea is that when someone is saved it’s Good News for everybody.
How much of your relationship with Christ is rubbing off on the people around you?
This is played out in Acts 2:36 where Peter says
“God has made this Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
The people asked Peter, “What are we to do?” (Acts 2:37)
Peter responds, “Change your lives… stop bickering, stop fighting…
So, why do Christians celebrate Easter?
1.Christians celebrate Easter because of GRACE. Just one word – GRACE.
Remember, “For by GRACE are were saved thru faith and not of ourselves, GRACE is a gift of God.” (Eph. 2:8-9)
2. The second reason we celebrate Easter is GLORY.
This is the promise: If we receive Christ’s Grace we shall share his Glory.
