Our Pastor, Rev. Dr. Virgil Humes (D.Min), is a servant leader who has experienced many of life’s challenges and celebrations.  He is blessed with an abundance of family and friends. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Pastor Humes is a graduate of Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA), Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA), Central Michigan University (Mt Pleasant, MI) and Ecumenical Theological Seminary (Detroit, MI).  He is the devoted husband to Dr. Velicia McMillan-Humes (Ed.D.), and proud father of Virgil (April), Lauren (Leslie), Dr. Tiffany, and Sean.  With a philosophy of meeting people where they are, Pastor Humes is a champion of a church that is open to all people—the Gospel is free and liberating to all who believe in the grace of the Savior, Jesus Christ.  He began his ministry as youth pastor at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Detroit, and currently leads the two campuses of New Hope Church in the cities of Wayne and Taylor, Michigan.  A leader by example, Pastor Humes is known for his involvement in the communities that surround New Hope, including efforts to improve relations among citizens and civic leaders via community forums.  Pastor Humes is active in religious, educational, social, political, business and economic causes to support fairness, justice, equity and inclusion for all.
