COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
PURPOSE
The New Hope Church College Scholarship Program exists to promote education beyond high school. Scholarships may be awarded annually to members of New Hope Church who are entering their first, second, third or fourth year of an accredited college or university on a full-time basis. Generally, scholarships are awarded based upon academic performance, writing skills, church involvement and other extracurricular activities. Funds for scholarships are provided solely by donations from generous church members and other donors; annual scholarship amounts are based upon the amount of available funds and the number of eligible applicants.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for a college scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a member of New Hope Church for at least six (6) months; and
- Must be enrolled, and working toward a degree, at an accredited college or university as a full-time 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year student; and
- Must have established and maintained at least a 2.0 (“C”) grade point average (GPA). For 1st year college students, final overall high school GPAs will be considered.
APPLICATION DEADLINE AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants that meet the Minimum Eligibility Requirements must submit a complete “College Scholarship Application Packet” no later than Saturday December 7, 2019- No Exceptions!
A College Scholarship Application Packet includes: 1) a fully completed College Scholarship Application; 2) an Essay on one (1) of the topics specified in the College Scholarship Application ; 3) at least three Written References Letters; and 4) the following attachments:

- High School Report Card which shows applicant’s final GPA and last card marking GPA
- Current class schedule or other documentation that shows applicant’s “full-time” college status

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD DECISIONS
The New Hope Church Scholarship Committee is responsible for all decisions pertaining to college scholarship awards. College scholarship award decisions will be based upon the quality and completeness of Scholarship Information Packets submitted by applicants that meet the Minimum Eligibility Requirements. Applications submitted by applicants that do not meet the Minimum Eligibility Requirements may not be considered.
All scholarship award recipients will be notified of their award. Scholarship award decisions may also be announced during a Sunday worship service.
MAKING DONATIONS
No church monies are budgeted or designated for the College Scholarship Fund. Rather, funds are provided solely through the generosity of New Hope Church members and other donors. APPLICANT’S ESSAY
The essay must be typed, on at least two full length letter-size (8-1/2” x 11”) pages, with double spacing, and attached to this College Scholarship Application.
Write an essay that responds to one (1) of the following questions – be sure to respond to all parts of the question:
- If you were living when Jesus lived on earth and you had the opportunity to spend one hour
with Him, what would you talk about? What questions would you ask Him? What information
about yourself would you share with Him? Explain your answers in detail. - Every 10 years, the U.S. census counts every resident in the United States. The next census will be held next year, in 2020. The date collected is used to determine the number of congressmen and congresswomen each state has. It is also used to determine how billions of federal dollars are distributed to states and cities. However, many individuals and families do not complete their census forms and, consequently, they are not counted in the census.How will you persuade your family members and friends to complete a census form in 2020?
- Aside from food, clothing and housing, what one thing could you not go a day without?
Explain in detail what you value most in life.

APPLICANT’S REFERENCES
Provide at least three (3) letters from references – letters must be from academic, work or extra-curricular activity references and must have been written within the last year (that is, not before November 2018). One exception — 1st year college students may use reference letters written during their junior and/or senior high school years.
